UptimeRobot Alternative: SensaCat
Fifty free monitors is unbeatable on price. The catch is in the terms, and in what the paid plans actually give you back.
SensaCat is the alternative if you need commercial use on a free tier, credential expiry tracking, or multi-step process monitoring. On raw uptime checks at $0, UptimeRobot is cheaper than us and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What UptimeRobot does well
Fifty monitors for $0 at 5-minute intervals is the most generous free tier in uptime monitoring, and it has been for years. That covers HTTP, port, ping, keyword, API, UDP, DNS, SSL expiry and domain expiry, plus heartbeat monitoring for background jobs.
The company is SOC 2 compliant with a published DPA, and runs a mobile app, a CLI and an MCP server. For a tool whose entry price is nothing, the operational maturity is unusual.
Domain expiry alerts at 30, 14 and 7 days are included even on Free, which is more than most paid competitors offer.
The gap: read the free plan's fine print
UptimeRobot's own pricing page describes the Free plan as good for hobby and non-profit projects, and their terms restrict it to personal, non-commercial use. If you are a freelancer, agency or funded startup, the 50 free monitors are not actually yours to use.
The paid ladder has an odd shape. Solo is $13/month monthly or $12 annually and gives you 10 monitors, which is fewer than the free tier offers. Team is $46/$39 for 100 monitors with 3 seats, and Scale is $98/$79 for 200.
SMS and voice are credits, not an allowance. They start at $3 for 10 credits and do not renew with your plan, and some countries consume 2 to 5 credits per message. Extra login seats are $15 to $19 each per month.
On coverage, UptimeRobot watches endpoints and heartbeats. There is no credential or API-key expiry tracking, and no way to correlate a multi-step process against a specific order or user ID.

Who should stay on UptimeRobot
Stay if you are running personal or non-profit projects, or if uptime and SSL are genuinely the whole problem. At $0 for 50 monitors on a SOC 2 compliant platform, nothing in this category competes on value and no honest comparison page should claim otherwise.
Switch if you need a free tier you can legally use commercially, if expiring API keys are part of your risk surface, or if your failures happen between services rather than at a single endpoint.
